Mr. Sixta's courses
World History- What makes us human? How do societies make sense of their world? Where are humans headed?
Let's begin to build the context for what it means to be a human on planet Earth. Our goal is to discover how "we" got to "now" and where "we" might be headed into the future. This is a study of the human story up to the Columbian Exchange.
Modern World History- Why is the world the way that it is?
Exploring the world as it is today and the influences/events that have resulted in today's current global situation. This class has an honors option for students interested in challenging themselves.
US History- What does it mean to be an American? How much influence do we have over our lives and the world?
How has nature and physical geography influenced America's development?
This class focuses on American History since the Civil War but explores the environmental influences to developing republic as it struggles to create a more perfect union. This class has an honors option for students interested in challenging themselves.
Economics- How do we make choices?
Homo Economicus may be the least controversial evolutionary hominoid in our society, but in becoming more Vulcan do we give up what makes us human in the first place?
Business- What makes a business successful?
We will be working on several projects this semester. We will begin by working with the Friends of the Library Bookstore to help them become more profitable, then we will be creating a December Christmas Market for Butte Falls, a skatepark & sports complex development, and finally each student will be undertaking their own entrepreneurial venture.
Focus
This class serves as a "homeroom" for the Juniors. We have a lot to accomplish this year including Prom, saving for a Senior Trip, developing leadership skills through community service projects, and time to read.
